RajYog: An Easy Lifestyle For Busy People

Meditation comes from the word ‘Mederi’ which means to heal. It heals the soul, which in turn heals the body, our relationships, career, nature, life and thereby the world itself.Whether you want to become mindful, wish to improve focus, attempting to give up an addiction, desire to experience stillness of the mind, or looking to connect to the divine – you will find a meditation type that is just right for you. Meditation is no longer an option or a luxury but has proven to be a necessity today.

There are two worlds we live in: The world within us composed of our thoughts, feelings, emotions and sanskars. And the world around us is composed of people, situations, material objects, and natural resources. Today, we have gained mastery in most aspects of the world around us. We even know what is happening on another planet or in the depths of ocean beds. But the same cannot be said about our mastery of the world within us. We do not seem to have control on our thoughts or feelings as scenes come and go. Have you noticed how dependency has become an everyday reality for most of us today?

  • We are dependent on certain people and believe we cannot live without them.
  • We live like victims of situations, longing for their outcomes to be our way.
  • We have become enslaved by our endless desires, wanting one thing or another.
  • We get addicted to certain foods, substances, gadgets, and objects.
  • We seek validation from society for who we are and what we do.
  • We expect happiness from achievements, peace from places, and love from people.

Our emotional dependency on situations, people, objects, places, or evenweather for how we feel is a sign that we have become slaves not just to our mind, but also to our sense organs. The good news is, there is one meditation method that liberates us from such emotional slavery and enables us to regain Self-Mastery: Rajyog Meditation. In Sanskrit, Raja means a ruler and Yoga means union or connection. So Rajyog means I the soul becomes a ruler over myself (Self-Sovereignty).Rajyog is also a connection between I the soul, and the Supreme Power, God. We connect to God’s powers to heal our emotional blockages, emerge our virtues and reclaim mastery over the self. So systematic practice of this meditation empowers us to reach a state where:

  • Our mind creates the right thoughts always, independent of the situation and people’s behaviour.
  • Self-discipline and will power comes naturally to us.
  • Our senses organs serve us, not control us.

We ride an emotional rollercoaster mainly due to a lack of self-awareness about: ‘Who Am I?’ When we consider ourselves as the body, we relate ourselves to our achievements, possessions, and roles. Rajyog teaches us that we are a soul (being, spirit, self or consciousness) who is a master of the body. The soul is energy which is eternal and indestructible. We souls are an embodiment of 7 qualities: Purity, Peace, Love, Happiness, Power, Knowledge, and Bliss. The purpose of our life is to experience and express these qualities as we come into action and interaction.

We do not want only one hour of happiness, health and harmony just for one hour a day. We want them to last all the time. So, it is not a question of allocating one hour for Yoga every morning. It is about allowing Yoga to be integrated within our life, by embracing a Yogic lifestyle. This is where Rajyog comes into play. Just as we need to excel in different subjects to obtain an academic Master’s Degree, we need to follow certain disciplines to achieve Self-Mastery through a Rajyogi lifestyle:

  1. Brahmacharya / Purity: Practice purity in every thought, word, and behaviour. Hold good wishes and blessings for people and situations.
  2. Brahma Muhurta: It is ideal to wake up between 4am and 5am which is also called Amrtivela, the highest-vibrational time of the day. Energise yourself with meditation, yoga and pranayama. During Pranayam, with each inhalation and exhalation, create the thoughts “I inhale love, exhale anger. I inhale peace, exhale stress. I inhale acceptance, exhale expectations.”
  3. Gyan Yog: Engage in spiritual study since content is our spiritual diet. So restrict or completely refrain from negative content from any platform. Read, watch or listen to messages that fill your mind with divinity, purity, power and harmony. Remember the equation: Content = Thoughts = Personality = Destiny.
  4. Satvik Aahar: As is the food, so is the mind. Food should be highly vibrational, not just nutritional. Tamsik food carries low energy vibrations of fear, anger, violence, and death. Cook Satvik food in a peaceful state, with high-energy words playing in the kitchen. Connect to the Divine and energize food and water just before partaking them. Practice mindful eating, staying away from screen distractions.
  5. Karma Yog: The law of karma states – As will be our karma, so will be our destiny. Your every thought, word, and action is Karma. Respond to every scene with acceptance, compassion, forgiveness, co-operation, and happiness. Drop the emotional baggage of pain, fear or resentment you are holding on to. Withdraw from arguments and conflicts. Forgive people, understanding that what they did in the past was due to their nature, their perspective or their mood that day. It was a consequence of your past karmic account which is settled, never to return. How you earn money is more important than how much you earn. Money you earn gives you physical comforts. The blessings you earn with the money bring you health, happiness, harmony and success.
  6. Traffic Control of the Mind: Pause for a minute after every 1 hour and meditate for 1 minute, to rest and recharge your mind.
  7. Yog Nidra: Sleep of a yogi also needs to be like meditation, so that even when sleeping you radiate purity. Write a daily journal to release the day’s clutter in your mind. Forgive people and seek forgiveness for any wrongdoings. Read spiritually empowering content and meditate for 10 minutes before you sleep.
  8. Self-Restraint: Your gadgets are designed to give you physical comfort. They cannot give emotional comforts like happiness or respect. So not become dependent on them. Take care of your possessions, using them only as needed and as much needed.
  9. Seva Bhav: Tell yourself daily – “I need nothing from other people.” Render selfless service with your physical strength, acts of charity and words of wisdom. Practice Mansa Seva (Service through thoughts) by consciously creating thoughts of healing and happiness for the whole planet.
  10. Minimalist Living: Free yourself from clutter, both emotionally and materialistically. Buy for comfort. Buying for happiness or buying to impress others is an addiction. Simple life creates simplicity in the mind.
